OUTCOME OF APPEAL: VOLUNTARY NATIONAL TITLE DEFENCE-JACKSON CHAUKE // CAFU

On the 24th and 25th March 2022 the Board of BSA deliberated on the appeal by Xaba Boxing Academy against the Sanctioning Committee decision in terms of which it had determined that Mr. Jackson Chauke must defend his National Flyweight Title as a mandatory defence as opposed to a voluntary defence.

On the 5th May 2018 the Board had resolved as follows:

“If a boxer has not defended his or her title for a longer period, the Sanctioning Committee has the responsibility to contact the boxer, however, whatever the decision the Committee takes, it must notify the Board for the ratification of that decision”.

Taking into account the above Board Resolution, two unanimous legal opinions from two legal firms and the provisions of Regulation 17(3)(a) of the Boxing Regulations, which provides what must happen when a boxer becomes a national champion, the Board resolved to uphold the appeal and to direct that the aforesaid bout should proceed as a voluntary defence.
