is with great sadness that we woke up to the news of the passing of boxing Promoter, Mr. Thulani Magudulela of Ludonga Boxing Promotions. His sudden passing also follows the cancellation of the tournament he was to host on Sunday, 14 February 2021, in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal. The tournament was canceled by Boxing South Africa (BSA), in consultation with him and the BSA Medical Advisory Committee Chairperson; Dr. Robert Selepe, following health and safety concerns related to Covid-19 which would possibly affect the boxers and the trainers who were to participate in the tournament.

Mr. Magudulela had been looking forward to hosting this tournament following its postponement in December last year because of the impact of the Covid-19 second wave which ultimately led to the country being placed back to level 3. All the necessary arrangements had been in place and boxing was to return to Nongoma, which had become his base, albeit without spectators which is what he had wished for. His consolation however was that he would be able to provide an opportunity for the boxers to earn an income following months of no activity because of the devastating pandemic and the subsequent lockdown which still negatively impacts the sports sector. He was also upbeat that he was bringing hope for the return of boxing in the province a tournament at a time.

Mr. Magudulela was a long-standing BSA licensee and a dedicated Promoter, a community philanthropist who had a huge heart for developing youngsters and helping them to live their dreams of becoming future champions. He had dedicated his time to uplifting the sport of boxing in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, given many boxers an opportunity to showcase their talent in the ring and unearthed many successful boxers, at times putting in his personal resources to help them pursue their passion in boxing. His sudden passing is a devastating shock to his community, to us at BSA and to those that worked with him.
We send our condolences to his family and friends and the boxing fraternity that has been affected by his passing.

Lala ngoxolo Ludonga luka Mavuso. Sdwaba esiluthuli! Wena wasebukhosini! Nkosi! Ngwane elihle! Zikode!
