Not too long ago South African boxing was on top of the world. As one
of the nation’s favourite sports, it enjoyed great prestige and thousands
tuned in on television to watch their preferred fighters slugging it out
in the ring on a regular basis as home-grown world champions were
crowned and heroes made.
Over time, that shine has gradually been lost, however, and the gloss long
gone, as years of maladministration and internal chaos led to the once-proud
sport’s slow demise.
