Nominations For Annual BSA Awards

Dear Boxing Friends,

Allow me, on the onset, to seize this opportunity to convey my earnest compliments of the New Year to all Boxing SA licensees, stakeholders, partners and all boxing friends and followers. 2010 was a good year, notwithstanding all challenges imposed on our much-loved sport (boxing). I find it also befitting to eagerly urge you all to gear up for the year ahead and continue to toil in one accord for the love of boxing. Together we can strive to put boxing in its equitable position.

Boxing SA wishes to announce that it will be hosting its 2010 BOXING AWARDS in Durban on the 19th of February 2011. This prestigious occasion, conducted by BSA in conjunction with the Department of Sports and Recreation, proudly hosted and assisted by the KZN Government. We have recently extended invitations to our stakeholders to aid in choosing nominees for the 2010 Boxing Awards. Even as we will have given them the guidelines for choice, so as to allow them the opportunity to explore and exercise their own expertise and experience in making an informed and independent decision, we have however beseeched them to consider the following factors in assisting them to make their choices;

1. Individuals or promotions that have already been granted the BSA Lifetime Achievement Award are no longer eligible for consideration as they have already been granted our ultimate honor. Among those would be Golden Gloves Promotions and Branco Sports who are consistent in delivering world class boxing every year. Please do not nominate them.

2. In categories where a choice has to be made , based on a once -off performance e.g. Fight Of The Year, special emphasis should be put on, amongst others, excellence in the skills, standard and quality of the action exhibited by the pugilists, the atmosphere and the significance of the event itself.

3. Where a series of events have to be revisited and evaluated e.g. Boxer of the Year, Prospect of the Year or Promoter of the Year, the quality of the events under consideration and or performance of the organization or individual in all activities during the year must be put under special scrutiny, while consistency and exhibition of potential for greatness, especially for Prospect of The Year, must be of utmost importance.

We trust that they will apply their mind fairly and equally so that their choices can reflect the true image and spirit of our country - a non-racial, non- sexist, fair and proud South Africa.

The categories for nominations and guidelines are as follows;

1. Boxer of The Year. - One must have been consistently outstanding in exhibiting outstanding mental and physical skills against quality opposition.

2. Fight Of The Year - where the spectator value of boxing was presented by outstanding and electrifying skills in which both boxers displayed the sport of boxing as a contest in which art and science, as well as bravery and resilience of the highest order make boxing the final winner.

3. Prospect Of The Year - outstanding performances against quality opposition where one shows the potential for great achievements in the future.

4. Trainer Of The Year - one who has shown the ability to produce the best performances out of boxers.

5. Manager Of The Year - one who creates opportunities and empowers boxers.

6. Promoter Of The Year - strict compliance to rules, quality of tournaments and great achievements for boxers under his or her wing.

7. Knockout Of The Year - the most spectacular knockout.

8. Ring Official Of The Year - must be consistently outstanding in handling fights, excellent interpretation of the rules and making quick and constructive decisions.

I thank you.
